COMPANY HISTORY
The company founder and current chairman, Mr H.F. Röthig started manufacturing generic bone plates and screws, skeletal pins and wires, etc. in 1982 at Table Bay Engineering (Pty) Ltd, a precision/production engineering company, due to the urgings and requests from members of the local orthopaedic fraternity.
In 1989, this venture blossomed into a fully-fledged, dedicated medical devices manufacturing business, namely Trauma Surgical Services C.C. The founder’s eldest son, Thomas Röthig joined the company in 1991 and his wife Sandra Röthig (a qualified accountant) was employed a year later. The company now had all the vital ingredients of a family business and as such it was decided to change its name to Röth Medical Components (Pty) Ltd.
At first, Röth Medical supplied its range of products to the South African market via a sole national distributor. In 1992 the first exports ensued and it was also decided that Röth Medical would henceforth manage its own South African marketing, sales and distribution. The company currently has a distribution network which covers and services the entire Southern African region. The company furthermore exports its extensive range of fracture management orthopaedic implants, associated systems and instrumentation, traction devices and medical devices, to approximately 40 countries around the world.
In 1994, Röth Medical started researching, developing, designing and patenting its own range of novel medical devices and orthopaedic systems. To this day it is the mission of Röth Medical to develop, design, manufacture and supply affordable, high-quality orthopaedic products and medical devices to a global market, without ever compromising on product quality and customer service.
